SowingSoak seeds in warm water for a few hours before sowing. Sow in pots of pre-watered compost, just covering with a fine layer of compost or vermiculite. Place out of direct sunlight at around 20 °C and allow 2–4 weeks for germination, keeping compost moist but not wet. Move to a cooler temperature after germination.
Growing On
Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle. Grow on in a sheltered spot outdoors, such as a cold frame or unheated greenhouse.
Planting Out
Plant out in full sun in well-drained soil. Also suitable for containers, raised beds, or rockeries.
Aftercare / Advice
Remove faded flowers throughout summer to prolong blooming and any dead foliage in spring. Add grit to improve drainage where necessary. Late summer sowings will flower earlier and more profusely the following year.
